At Direct Language Lab (dllab.eu), we publish two dedicated Spanish course series: Español designed with Direct Method for teenagers and adults, and Español para niños for children aged 6–13 – both built on the proven direct method and designed to get learners speaking Spanish from day one.
Below you will find out that:
The direct method is a communicative approach to language teaching in which the target language – in this case Spanish – is used exclusively from the very first lesson. There is no reliance on translation. Instead, the teacher asks questions in Spanish and students respond immediately, building vocabulary, grammar awareness, and pronunciation through constant, meaningful practice.
At Direct Language Lab, we have developed and refined this approach across all our coursebook series. The result is a structured yet dynamic learning experience that produces real, measurable results in speaking and listening – the two skills most learners prioritise.
The Español series by Direct Language Lab covers six levels from A1 (complete beginner) to B2 (upper intermediate), making it suitable for a full multi-year Spanish programme at a language school. Each level contains 18 units organised into 3 modules, which makes lesson planning, progress testing and semester scheduling straightforward for school administrators and teachers alike.
The vocabulary is entirely practical: over 3,200 words selected for everyday communicative relevance, presented in context rather than as isolated lists. This contextual approach significantly improves retention and enables learners to use new language spontaneously and accurately.
Español para niños is a purpose-built Spanish course for young learners aged 6-13. It applies the same direct method principles as the adult series, but adapts them fully to the way children naturally acquire language: through repetition, play, visual stimulation and short, varied activities.
Children learn by answering simple questions in Spanish, gradually internalising grammar structures and vocabulary without the need for abstract rules or translation. Colourful, purpose-designed illustrations support comprehension and vocabulary recall, while games, puzzles, and recycled content keep learners motivated throughout the course.
The course is available in an international edition only (without native-language translations), encouraging full immersion from the earliest stages. This also makes the series universally suitable – schools in different countries can use identical materials without adaptation.
